【摘要】:Absoluteandcomparativemethodsprovideameansforsortinglargequantitiesofferrouspartsofstockwithregardtocomposition,condition,structure,orprocessing,oracombinationthereof.Thecomparativeortwo-coilmethodisusedwhenhigh-sensitivitytestingisrequired.Theadvantageofthismethodisthatitalmostcompletelysuppressesallinternalorexternaldisturbancessuchastemperaturevariationsorstraymagneticfields.Thetwo-coilmethodisnormallyusedwhenharmonicevaluationisemployedforsorting.Theabilitytoaccomplishsatisfactorilythesetypesofseparationsisdependentupontherelationofthemagneticcharacteristicsoftheferromagneticpartstotheirphysicalcondition.Thesemethodsmaybeusedforhigh-speedsortinginafullyautomatedsetupwherethespeedoftestingmayapproachtenspecimensperseconddependingontheirsizeandshape.Thesuccessofsortingferromagneticmaterialdependsmainlyontheproperselectionofmagneticfieldstrengthandfrequencyofsignalinthetestcoil,fillfactor,andvariablespresentinthesample.Thedegreeofaccuracyofasortwillbeaffectedgreatlybythecouplingbetweenthetestcoilfieldandthetestspecimenandtheaccuracywithwhichthespecimenisheldinthetestcoilfieldduringthemeasuringperiod.Whenhighcurrentsareusedinthetestcoil,ameansshouldbeprovidedtomaintainaconstanttemperatureofthereferencespecimeninordertominimizemeasurementdrift.1.1Thispracticecoverstheprocedureforsortingferrousmetalsusingtheelectromagnetic(eddy-current)method.Theprocedurerelatestoinstrumentsusingabsoluteorcomparator-typecoilsfordistinguishingvariationsinmass,shape,conductivity,permeability,andothervariablessuchashardnessandalloythataffecttheelectromagneticormagneticpropertiesofthematerial.Theselectionofspecimenstodeterminesortingfeasibilityandtoestablishstandardsisalsoincluded.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
